Deltec Has A Whole New Crop of Protein Skimmers
It’s been a hot minute since we’ve seen some nice new protein skimmer designs from Deltec but now the wait is finally over. The brand has kept a pretty low profile over the last few years following the tepid response to their SC line of skimmers since they featured very few innovations and a fairly high price tag.
Nevertheless Deltec is back with some new protein skimmers which finally deliver some design improvements, higher performance, and finally some controllable DC pumps. The new crop of consumer size protein skimmers includes the 600i, 600ix, 1000i, 1000ix and a beefy 1500ix which still carry that signature deltec white acrylic construction, but now have a much improved outflow design through the base plate.
This new approach to water flow management offers the Deltec I and IX skimmers much better contact time between the air/water mixture without increasing the overall height of the skimmers. But the biggest new change of the I and IX skimmers by Deltec is the addition of a new safety features that will prevent overflow of the skimmate with a built-in ‘release’ pipe to maintain optimal height in the skimmer body.
